Stand Against Racism

In recent years, Sri Lanka has been turning into another Burma. Deliberate acts of violence keep taking place against Christian and Muslim minorities, and after each attack, the majority community changes their Facebook profile pictures to “against racism” images and quotes. I honestly don’t see the point. Each of us should reflect and root racism out of our own hearts — changing a profile picture won’t change anything on its own. So instead, I want to share a pledge to stand against racism, adapted from Standagainstracism.org. Please read it with an open heart and try to apply it in your daily life. Rather than simply praying, I believe that if you and I actually live by this, we can help build a better humanity on this planet.

Pledge against racism

As an individual committed to social justice, I stand against racism and discrimination of any kind. I will commit to a lifetime of promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people in my community and in the world.
